Forgot to post this earlier!
Hey, everyone! So the NYC Toy Fair is in full swing, and bloggers like Mommy and Gracie Show are starting to post pics of the new toys on display. So far I've seen a few interesting things:
1. Funko is unveiling more figures--not the Pop! ones with the weird super-deformed style-- for Barbie and DC Comics. They have two Wonder Woman figures; classic comic WW and one based on the upcoming movie version. Both are super-cute and I love them!
2. DC Super Hero Girls, in addition to the normal dolls, will be releasing "action dolls" that look like a fashion doll-action figure hybrid. Rooted hair, molded plastic clothes, and partial articulation. The face molds all look the same, but these are probably prototypes. They have Wonder Woman, Batgirl, and Supergirl on display. (For once, I don't mind that the dolls don't look like their webisode counterparts; the art there is really basic and uninspiring.)
Really excited! Miss Scarlett, signing out!

The Sky: The Art of Final Fantasy Slipcased Edition review
I'll make a confession to all of you: I love art books. It seems so much like a decadent indulgence, given how pricey they tend to be, and that it gives me a little thrill when I think that I paid how much to look at a book that's all pictures? But I do have several favorite artists, and being able to own a nice, big book filled with crisp, clean pages full of their artwork is an absolute delight. One of these favorite artists is the incomparable Yoshitaka Amano, most famous for making designing concept art of Square Enix's Final Fantasy video game franchise and for illustrating Hideyuki Kikuchi's Vampire Hunter D novel series. Amano, like another favorite artist, the Megami Tensei franchise's main artist Kazuma Kaneko, has a wholly unique style like nothing I could have ever dreamed of before. His art is wistful, elegant, and melancholy, looking like something seen in a dream. It's wonderfully ornate and otherworldly, but with a loose and sketchy quality at the same time.
Lest you wonder why I'm rambling about Japanese artists, today's review takes a look at a compilation of some of Amano's better-known art from the Final Fantasy franchise. Everything you need to know is after the jump!

Ever After High "Fairest on Ice" Duchess Swan doll review
Welcome to the Hobby Haven: Winter Sports edition! I'm your commentator, Miss Scarlett, and here we have a doll review that is VERY topical, especially given the recent weather.
You have remembered me announcing earlier that Ever After High had released a "Fairest on Ice" winter/ice-skating themed line of dolls featuring Ashlynn Ella (that girl is in everything!), Poppy O'Hair, aaaand my girl Duchess Swan! I temporarily put off getting her at the time because I had other priorities (Pfffft), and fully intended to just get her when I could. And that, my friends, was pretty dumb of me. It looks like Mattel didn't make many of these, because I quickly found that they weren't sold online from retailers, and the stores in our area just never had them. Angry and frustrated, I just resigned myself to never getting Duchess.
And then I got a lucky break; my good friend Miss Momo, who goes toy-hunting a few times a month, stumbled across her at Wal-Mart by complete chance. (It figures, right?) So she snagged it for me, and generously gave her to me for Christmas. I feel very lucky to have such a good friend. :) So here is my review of her, for all of you EAH fans! You can read all the details after the cut.

Wonfes fun!
Hey, everyone! The 2016 Winter Wonfes has come and gone, and lots of goodies have been revealed for all of us eager figure-colelcting fans!
First of all, you can find pics of everything that I'm talking about at Crunchyroll, the Never Outgrew Toys blog, Hubbyte Toys' Facebook page, and Neko Magic.
There are a *ton* of Marvel and DC figures this go-round, including Superman and Batman Nendoroids. And Captain America. SO. CUTE. Plans announced for a Deadpool figma and Nendoroid. Also, a lot of Nintendo: there were several Legend of Zelda figmas and Nendoroids (lots from Wind Waker, but some of the newer games, too), plus Metroid, Kirby, Pokemon...It goes on. The Pokemon offering is an Ash/Gary Nendoroid set with a teeny little Mew; it looks great, and Miss Momo is drooling over that already. (That will be released in November; it was one of the few figures with a release date attached.)
Lots of popular anime represented, too, with One-Punch Man (they revealed an adorable Genos Nendoroid), Sword Art Online, etc. Card Captor Sakura is getting a lot of love, with some promises of making "battle costume" Sakura Nendoroids available in the near future. And speaking of Clamp, there was finally a prototype of the Magic Knight Rayearth figmas that were announced last year! Just Hikaru for right now, but I'm optimistic that Umi and Fuu aren't far behind.
There's some that I will be definitely getting: the Magic Knight Rayearth figmas, the Ushio and Tora Nendoroids, the Kaitou Kid figma... I'm mulling over the possibility of getting the Spike Spiegel figure, but I need to see the prototype (and who knows when that's gonna be). I'm very interested in seeing more high-res photos of the Elsa figma, especially once she's painted. I'm not quite sure if I'll like her or not, so I'll need to see the sculpt and examine it carefully.
With any luck, we'll get more news and better photos at this summer's Wonfes! And that's all from me right now. Miss Scarlett, signing out!

Odds and sods
Hey, everyone! Happy weekend!
I've got some bits and pieces of news for you guys:
Ever After High's Dragon Games special is now LIVE on Netflix! Also, they just released a two-pack with Bunny Blanc and Alistair Wonderland, "Carnival Date." (I'm personally not crazy about the dolls' clothes, but hey, they're from Wonderland! Wacky fashion abounds there.) It's a Toys-R-Us exclusive, and you can pick it up on their website for $29.99.
Apparently, the DC Super Hero Girls dolls will be showing up in stores on February 28th! I won't be getting mine until maybe April (grrr, stupid bills), but there's no reason for you guys to miss out! One of the fan sites I follow got their hands on some early copies (review copies, maybe? Test markets?), and has been posting tons of pics. I can't wait!
Monster High just released a "Fierce Rockers" line, all rock n' roll themed. There's a 2-pack with Catty Noir and Toralei, and a 3-pack with Clawdeen, Venus, and Jinafire. Mattel's also re-releasing some previous budget lines, like Dead Tired, Beach Beasties, and Gloom Beach, so you might see those if you go to some of the big box retailers like Wal-Mart.
Still can't wait for some of the big toy and figure shows coming this month! The Tokyo Winter Wonder Festival starts TOMORROW, and I am crossing my fingers for some figure news...maybe a confirmation on those Magic Knight Rayearth figmas I saw announced last year... Now, Bandai *just* announced the release date for the Black Lady S.H. Figuarts (this July), so will they announce more Figuarts news? Maybe, maybe not. They run their own events, so they might withhold info until then. (On a side note, I wonder what this could mean for future Figuarts. A Mistress 9 Figuarts, since that's also a villain version of a protagonist?) Since there's been a lot of silence about new Sailor Moon Figuarts, and now have a figure just announced for July, I don't think we'll get anything released before then...
The NYC Toy Fair is Valentine's Day weekend (Same weekend as Katsucon, maybe we'll start getting some license announcements?), so we might see more info on the DCSHG dolls, like what characters will be released later. Also maybe some prototypes of the new "redesigned" Monster High dolls. ::shrugs::
I'll post WonFes news when I see it, so stay tuned! Miss Scarlett, signing out!
