Hello everyone, and welcome to the Hobby Haven! It's been a while, but now that my orders from online places are beginning to trickle in, I've been trying to carve out some time for reviewing. Let's get right to it!
I should say before I begin that this is the first Nendoroid released of Yuri--there are actually several variations, for reasons only fathomable to GSC. (Okay, let's be honest, those reasons are purely financial--although I can't understand why anyone would want three different versions of Yuri???) I'll cop to the fact that I was rushed for time, so there aren't as many pictures of this right now.
I picked up Yuri From HobbyLink Japan for about $40, after currency conversion. There are a bunch of shipping options, but I recommend FedEx, which arrives after 5 or so business days, for a reasonable price.
The box is white and a very soft blue; very wintery! You immediately think of snow and ice, although maybe not in quite the same way that the Elsa Nendoroid's box did.
As usual, the different sides of the box show you the various poses you can put Yuri in.
Yuri comes with three faces, another hair piece, and a good amount of arms and accessories. Not bad!
The "default" hair piece that Yuri has on within the packaging is his slicked-back hairstyle that he wears while skating. Makes sense, since he's in his professional skating costume. The "default" face that he comes with has a wide, open-mouthed smile showing some teeth. Yuri also has a calmer face--he makes that one when he skates his routine and thinks about food--and an embarrassed, blushing face that I forgot to take a picture of.
I gotta say that I'm impressed that they initially chose to use Yuri's ice skating outfit for this Nendoroid. It's a visually complex outfit with different patterns and layers, but they managed to sculpt it fairly well!
If you're looking for a more casual look, swap out his hair with the messier-styled piece and pop on his glasses. Here, he's checking his phone. Maybe taking a selfie to send to Viktor?
I love that they included a bowl of katsudon and some chopsticks, since Yuri is the katsudon champion. But it also doesn't make sense, because who eats katsudon in their ice skating outfit? Is someone bringing a katuson bowl to the rink for him?
Jazz hands! Most of the pieces that Yuri comes with her meant to either hold accessories, but you have some to make skating poses, too.
For those who are interested in picking up a Nendoroid from this show, you should be aware that besides this version of Yuri, there is a Good Smile exclusive Nendoroid of Yuri in his free skate outfit (the blue costume) that was only available at AX, WonFes, and in limited quantities from their online store, and a plain clothes version that hasn't come out yet. There's also a Victor and a Yuri Plisetsky figure available. Given that Yuri got multiple figures, it's probably that Victor and Yurio would get casual clothes figures, too. In the meanwhile, if you have to have a Yuri!! on Ice figure, this will be your best bet, both in terms of affordability and availability.
Well, I hope you enjoy your day, everyone! I'm off to write more reviews. Miss Scarlett, signing out!
