Miss Scarlett Cooks! Apple Crisp

Well, readers, autumn has come once again and I couldn't be happier. The cool weather, the colors, the warm fashions and food~~ It's perfect. So to launch all of us into the festive fall mood, I'm sharing a delicious seasonal recipe for one of my favorite desserts: apple crisp! It's perfect for dessert or even a decadent breakfast the next morning. It's pretty easy to make, too! Everything you need to know is after the jump.

The ingredients:

  • Approximately 10 cups' worth of cored and sliced apples**
  • 1 cup and 1 tbsp of flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup of melted butter
  • 1 cup quick-cooking oats
**You can slice them if you want, but I think it looks better to leave the skin on!

The tools:

  • A cutting board
  • A good chopping knife
  • Measuring spoons
  • 9 x 13 inch pan
  • Measuring cups
  • 2 small bowls
  • Stirring spoon

How to make it:

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. (I am assuming you have already cut up your apples, but if you haven't, do this while the oven is heating!)
  • Place the apples into the pan (do not grease it!) in an even layer.
  • Mix the tablespoon of flour with the cinnamon and sprinkle over the apples.
  • Pour the water evenly over the apples.
  • Mix the oats, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, butter, and the rest of the flour together to form a sort of dough. Crumble this evenly over the top of the apples.
  • Bake for about 50 minutes to an hour, or until lightly brown.
