Miss Scarlett Cooks! Homestyle Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Hi, everyone! Let's make something delish to eat today! I grew up eating boxed mac and cheese, and never even knew you could make it another way until I was an adult. I definitely like this version better; it's a lot cheesier and creamier. I'll share how to make it after the jump.

The Ingredients:

  • One package of noodles
  • 1 jar Alfredo sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp oil
  • 2 cups shredded cheese, any type
  • 1 cup soft processed-type cheese**
  • 3/4 cup bread crumbs or panko
**This is the part that's a little tricky. The first time I made this, I had a bunch of Laughing Cow cheese wedges. I've also used Babybel cheese, and Velveeta would probably work, too. If you don't have any of this type of cheese--or you don't want to use this type--you can just add an extra cup of shredded cheese.

The Tools:
  • An oven
  • Medium to large saucepan
  • Colander
  • Baking dish
  • A microwave-safe bowl
  • Large stirring spoon
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cups
  • Cooking spray

How to make it:
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees; spray the dish with cooking spray.
  2. Cook the noodles according to the directions on the package; add the oil and salt to the boiling water to prevent sticking.
  3. While the noodles are boiling, put the Alfredo sauce in a microwave-safe bowl. If you're using the processed cheese, cut it into small chunks and add it. If you're not, dump in a cup of shredded cheese. Microwave for 6 minutes at 60 percent power. When it's finished, stir it, then put it back in the microwave for another 5 minutes, still at 60 percent power. Season with pepper, and stir in another cup of shredded cheese, until fully melted.
  4. Once cooked and drained, add the noodles to the baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over it, and then stir to coat. Pour in the remaining sauce, and stir to coat again. Top with the remaining shredded cheese, and the bread crumbs/panko.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes to an hour; broil for 3 to 4 minutes at the end if you want a crisper top.
